Amber Jewelry
Amber jewelry is created from a materially technically
referred to as resinite. This is not fossilized sap, but fossilized
tree resin. Since Neolithic times, the material has been valued for
its appearance.
Ideally, amber jewelry will be created from high quality resinite.
Often, animal or plant material may be a part of the jewels because
it originally was so soft and sticky. Based on the chemical constituents
of the material, it may fall into any of five categories.
Amber jewelry comes in a wide range of colors. Generally, the term
is associated with a yellow-orange-brown color. However, it may range
from white through yellow to brown and even a near black. Red or cherry
amber is even possible, as well as a green variety. Blue amber exists
as well. This latter type is very rare and widely sought.
